I had this question asked of me yesterday and I thought
"Wow, this really is such a good question!"
And, one that years ago when I first started on this path of healing, I remember asking too. So, I wanted to share what it means to me and some every day ways that you are probably already "doing the work."
To me, "doing the work" means that I'm no longer going throughout my day letting my old stories, wounds & pain lead me. I'm being more intentional about the thoughts I think, the ways I speak to myself & how I'm feeling.
Instead of pushing through or showing up like a wounded animal who's afraid they won't be loved or taken care of, I show up knowing it's my responsibility and privilege to be in charge of my healing and life.
"Doing the work" is simply that moment where you switch from being unconsciously led by your wounds and limiting thoughts to CHOOSING what you want to see happen in your life, how you want to feel & honoring everything that comes up along the way.
Some day it means being so alive with the inspiration of your dreams that you know anything is possible and other times, it means being a witness to the big feelings that are bubbling to the surface. One is not greater than other and both are necessary.
For most of us, when we start the "work" we do so because we have come face to face with some pain that we haven't been able to resolve. And, what's required of us is the courage to face it and love ourselves through all of the feelings and healing that is wanting to take place.
But, not all "work" is about healing. Sometimes, the "work" is the celebration of how far you have come, it's dinner with your family or allowing yourself to have something you've always dreamed of. Because, in the end, the "work" is truly just you living your life as the most authentic version of yourself that you can be.
I'm cheering for you friend. It takes a brave soul to show up!
And if you need some suggestions for what "the work" looks like, you can use the list below to help you start to see some of the ways it shows up... but know, there are countless ways to do it, so trust yourself first and foremost!
When it comes to healing & growing into who you truly are, it's always easier when you have support. If you have questions or want support in a session, you schedule that HERE.
